**Bio**: David Dowe has been with the Monash University Faculty of IT for 20+ years as an associate professor. He teaches subjects in artificial intelligence, data science, and computer science fields. He has more than 100+ peer reviewed publications and have ran research projects with industry partners. He is the inheritor of the Minimum Message Length (MML)technique which was developed within the university by the late Professor Chris Wallace who was his mentor. MML is a Bayesian information-theoretic method for statistical model comparison and selection. When not teaching or researching, David supports the chess player community in Melbourne.
