Mam Tor, Lose Hill & Hope loop from Castleton — Peak District National Park
Details
Getting up there: If anyone would like a lift from MK, please DM me ASAP.
The route: This is a just over 8-mile intermediate walk with a maximum elevation of around 500 metres. The route includes some hill climbing and countryside walking, with stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
A reasonable level of fitness is needed. There are easily accessible foot paths on this route. Suitable footwear is required as there will be some uneven and possibly slippery paths. Some bits of the fields can get boggy.
The hike is approximately 4 hours (including stoppages) at an average walking speed of 2.2-2.5 miles an hour.
Note: Please be advised: members are responsible for assessing their own level of fitness. You are responsible for your own safety and making sure your actions do not harm others, animals, or the environment.
What to bring: Please bring snacks and at least 1 litre of water (I always bring 2 litres myself). A packed lunch is advised as we will stop for breaks.
Please also bring a torch as it may start to get dark as we loop back.
Message me if you need tips on anything else you might like to bring.
Parking: If you are struggling to find a space in the Peak Cavern carpark, there is parking available along the road just outside the carpark.
Dogs: Dogs are welcome but please keep your dog on a lead throughout.
Fee: There is a £2 fee to cover the host’s costs in running this walk. Please bring on the day.
