What we’re about
NOVA Scribes is a free and open forum for visual practitioners to share their knowledge.
We are anyone who uses visuals to move others: consultants and facilitators who use visuals, graphic recorders, scribes, sketchnoters, and others!
We're all volunteers! Anyone who wants to can be an organizer or presenter.
The proceeds from the events go to:
• the presenters,
• charities that support the arts as a means of bridging people and communities such as the Whitethorne Foundation, which brings arts education to indigenous communities,
• honorariums for new graphic recorders to practice scribing our events, and
• scholarships to bring new attendees to events like the IFVP conference.
We have organized classes, graphic jams, open spaces, and webinars to share skills and learn from each other. We record our webinars for anyone to watch later, and if you're interested in presenting a topic, please let us know!
We organize our events using the Meetup app. You can find us at www.meetup.com/NOVA-Scribes
It's free to be a NOVA Scribes Member; please join us!

Online### Sometimes, You Should Make It About You
The art of bringing your full self into your facilitation
In this experiential session, facilitator and mindfulness teacher Alex Snider invites you to explore the sigh of relief that comes from bringing more authenticity into your facilitation. Together, we’ll slow down the act of leading and discover how revealing a bit more of yourself can strengthen connection and trust.
This isn’t about making it all about you. It’s about stepping off script to model the human, real-time leadership that truly holds a group.
In this 60-minute workshop, we’ll explore:
- Slowing down enough to sense yourself in the moment
- The art of revealing uncertainty and vulnerability in ways that build trust rather than lose the group
- Letting go of the need to have all the answers and instead modeling the compassionate presence you want to inspire in others
Why it matters:
Facilitators often feel pressure to be composed, clear, and in control. Yet some of the most transformative moments happen when we pause and let the group see us—our curiosity, our mixed feelings, our fear. This openness invites others to do the same, creating a space that feels alive, honest, and deeply connected.Who it’s for:
Facilitators, coaches, team leads, and anyone who wants to bring greater authenticity, mindfulness, and compassion into the way they guide groups.Format:
- Online (Zoom)
- 60 minutes, interactive and reflective
- Bring a notebook for light journaling
About the facilitator:
Alex Snider is a facilitator, writer, speaker and meditation teacher, and former government strategist. His work blends mindfulness and the beautiful and sometimes frustrating act of being human together to help people slow down and find meaning amidst the challenges of work and life.
