Combine movement, wellness, and history as we explore the nature trail at the Dr. James Still Office Site and Education Center located at 210 Medford-Mt. Holly Road in Medford, a part of the Wharton State Forest.
We will go at the pace of the slowest hiker. The trail is just about 1 mile so you can complete one, two, or three loops depending on your comfort level. (The trail is fairly flat.)
NOTE: Do not go to Dr. Still's office on Church Road. We will walk to the office of Dr. James Still, medicinal herbalist known as "The Black Doctor of the Pines." After the hike you can visit the education center to learn more about this inspirational son of formerly enslaved parents who became a very successful and respected healer in Burlington County. (Education Center visit optional but notice the later start time to coincide with the open house hours of 11:30 to 4:00.)
There are no restrooms at the beginning of the hike but there are bathrooms in the education center once the open house begins.
This walk is perfect for people just starting or restarting their fitness/wellness journey. It is also good for those recovering from injury or illness. What better way to honor the legacy of Dr. Still.
