Welcome to our social group — a friendly community for anyone who wants to stay active, meet new people, and enjoy fun experiences in and around Oxford.
We organise a mix of activities including social drinks, walks, hikes, music events, and dancing. Whether you’re new to the area or just looking to expand your circle, this group is a relaxed and welcoming space to connect, keep active, and have a great time together.

Join us for a scenic and varied circular walk combining countryside, riverside paths, and a touch of history.
We’ll start in the picturesque village of Dorchester-on-Thames and head out along quiet lanes, passing through areas rich in history, including land once explored for its Roman heritage. From there, we’ll cross the river and begin a steady climb up to the Wittenham Clumps.
The climb is well worth it—at the top, we’ll be rewarded with beautiful panoramic views across Oxfordshire. We’ll also pass Castle Hill, the site of an ancient Iron Age hill fort, and stop near the commemorative stone marking the former Poem Tree.
After taking in the views, we’ll make our way back down and return to the village via a peaceful riverside path—perfect for a relaxed finish to the walk.
At the end of the walk, there will be an optional pub stop for anyone who would like to stay for a drink or a bite to eat 🍻***

🚶 Distance: Approx. 8 km
⏱ Duration: Around 2.5 hours
⛰️ Difficulty: Moderate (includes a steady uphill section)***

- Suitable footwear (can be muddy in places)

Some sections are uneven and can be slippery after rain, so take care on the climbs and descents.***

Meetup Subscription Costs – Help Keep the Group Going 😊

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed so far to help support the group — your kindness and support are genuinely appreciated.
Since my original message on Saturday and the announcement post, 21 members have now contributed, with the majority paying the suggested amount of £5, which is a really encouraging start. However, we are still quite far from covering the annual Meetup subscription costs needed to keep the group running.
As many of you know, all events, walks, socials, and activities are organised voluntarily. In addition to the Meetup subscription, organisers often personally cover costs such as petrol, parking, planning time, and administration simply because we enjoy creating an active and friendly community for everyone.
I completely understand that contributions are optional, and I truly appreciate every bit of support, no matter the amount. Even small contributions from more members would make a real difference.
However, if we are still far from reaching the required amount by 24th May, I may need to review how the group operates in the future — whether that means introducing a compulsory small annual contribution system or, in the worst-case scenario, pausing or closing the group on Meetup.
If we raise more than needed, any extra funds will either go towards next year’s subscription costs or towards organising a community social or party for members later in the year.
