About This Group
Why this group exists
Being a parent carer of a child or young person with additional needs can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be hard, tiring, and at times isolating. Even when we have friends, family, and colleagues around us, there are parts of this life that don’t always get shared — simply because it can be difficult for others to fully understand. This group was created to offer a space where that understanding is already there.
A bit about me
I’m a parent carer of a 24-year-old son. He’s autistic, non-verbal, and has severe learning difficulties. That’s my own experience, but this group is open to parent carers of children and young people with any kind of additional needs, at any age.
Why you might want to join
Since moving to the Malvern area three years ago, I’ve built friendships and work connections, but I’ve felt the gap that comes from not being able to fully share this part of my life. I’ve also missed the kind of connection I had when I ran a parent carers group where I used to live. This group is about meeting people who understand, so you can relax, be yourself, and feel a little less alone.
What we do
This is a parent-only social group — a chance to connect with others who understand, enjoy each other’s company, and take a little time for yourself. Meetups will be relaxed and informal, and may include:
• Coffee meet-ups
• Occasional lunches or dinners
• Weekend get-togethers
• Meetups during school holidays
Our approach
While life as a parent carer can be challenging, this group is also a place of warmth, hope, and mutual support — a reminder that you are not on your own.

• A group for children or young people (meetups are for parent carers only)
• A professional or therapeutic support service
• A place where anyone is expected to share more than they feel comfortable with
