"Georg Hegel - Phenomenology of Spirit"
G.W.F. Hegel’s main philosophy, known as Absolute Idealism, asserts that all of reality is a single, evolving, rational whole. He argued that history is the progressive unfolding of "Spirit" (human consciousness and reason) overcoming contradictions to achieve ultimate self-awareness and freedom.
Hegel's main philosophy was build on three main concepts which are still considered relevant today, these are
- The Dialectic (The Motor of Change)
Hegel believed that truth and reality do not stay static; they advance through a three-step process of conflict and resolution: - The Unity of Subject and Object
Before Hegel, many philosophers argued there was a distinct separation between the mind (the subject) and the outside world (the object). Hegel argued that subject and object are deeply interconnected. - History and "Spirit" (Geist)
For Hegel, history is not a random series of events, but the biography of "Spirit" (the collective consciousness of humanity) on its journey to absolute self-awareness. Every historical era embodies a specific "spirit" (Zeitgeist).
In this discussion we will be doing a deep dive into Hegel's work, what insights it might hold for our understanding of the world, how it has effected the evolution of philosophy and what its relevance is today in modern philosophy and thinking.
I look forward to seeing you and sharing your wisdom as we explore this interesting subject.
