Philosophy Roundtable: Mortality

Please join us this Sunday to discuss Mortality. This session will be hosted by Daniel.

We will meet at the Captain Melville at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp.

There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged.

Questionsinclude:

• What happens to our philosophy once we eliminate the fear of death?
• Does death give life meaning, or does it merely impose an unnecessary deadline?
• If ageing disappeared but accidental death remained, would we fear death less — or fear it even more because every death would seem preventable?
• Could you remain the same person after living for 1,000 years, or would immortality eventually destroy your original identity?
• If only the wealthy could afford immortality, would this be ordinary inequality — or the creation of two different classes of human being?
• If immortality caused severe overpopulation, would society be justified in restricting who may have children?
• Any other questions you may wish to discuss on the topic.
