Third Annual Alamo Roadshow Holiday Event - PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES (1987)
Details
Come help us get our nog on for a very special edition of our Primetime Movie Night as we invade the Alamo South Lamar for a private screening of a holiday classic - PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES (1987), the story of a couple of men (Steve Martin and John Candy) who just want to make it home for Thanksgiving. In the pair we get one of the most inspired comedy pairings since Abbott and Costello, and a truly funny and sweet look into the madness of the holiday season, inadvertent friendships, hilarious male bonding rituals, and the true meaning of home.
At the helm is the legendary writer/director John Hughes in his first attempt at writing and directing outside the teen genre that made him so famous in films such as SIXTEEN CANDLES (1984) and THE BREAKFAST CLUB (1985). Throw in some memorable cameos and supporting appearances from Michael McKean and Kevin Bacon, and you have a bona fide holiday season classic that garnered a 93% critic score and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
If you've never seen it, or never seen it in a theater, you are in for a cool treat. But even if you have, come and join us as we quote all the now indelible lines at the screen.
How about those Bears?
That's right, Primetimers. Once again I've rented one of Alamo's theaters for our exclusive use. Think of it as one of our Backyard Movie Nights, except inside and with the availability of a full menu and bar (and parking)! We'll have the theater to ourselves from 7 until 10, with the movie starting around 8, so we'll have our normal hour before the movie to visit and eat. Alamo waitstaff will be there taking your orders for all the delectable stuff the Alamo chefs cook up, and of course the beverages (adult and otherwise) of your choice. I'll start you off with bowls of buttered popcorn every few seats on me.
Meanwhile we'll have games, prizes, props, and of course one of my preshows to warm you up for the movie.
All on a giant Alamo movie screen.
I'm taking care of the rental of the theater and the film license, and the popcorn (which is supposed to be bottomless). You take care of your own food and bar bill. I'm also going to ask everyone for a $10 per person donation to help me with the cost, payable through the Paypal Meetup link below. At $10 it may be the cheapest movie you'll ever see at the Alamo. I do need an accurate RSVP count, but chances are I'm not actually going to be checking "tickets". If you really can't afford the $10, come on anyway. This is the holidays, and this is my present to all of you.
See you there.
