San Diego Mahjong Club

Please bring your friends and join us for a fun night of drinks, friends, and Mahjong! Everyone is welcome at Mahjong Night, whether you are an experienced player looking to scratch your Mahjong itch or a new player who wants to learn how to play this classic game.

Mahjong Night is the easiest way to learn Mahjong in San Diego. The format played at this event is Zung Jung (Modern Hong Kong Style) — an easy-to-learn format — and we provide easy-to-use cheat sheets, quick reference cards, and friendly instruction so you can pick it up as you play. Come as you are, bring a friend, grab a drink, and leave knowing how to play!

This event is for Zung Jung only. Other mahjong styles (e.g., Riichi, Hong Kong, International [MCR]) are not permitted at this event. Please attend an event specifically scheduled for those formats.

The San Diego Mahjong Club was founded on January 9, 2025, and we’d love for you to join us in celebrating the club's one-year anniversary! Join us to play mahjong, connect with fellow players, and help us mark this special milestone together.

We’ll be holding a prize raffle at 8:30 pm to celebrate the amazing community that has made this club such a success. Thank you all for the great games, the great company, and for helping make the San Diego Mahjong Club such a wonderful experience!

How to Earn Tickets for Prize Raffle
Each player will receive one raffle ticket for attending and may earn additional tickets by winning games. Tickets will be distributed by value of the winning hand accordingly:

• Less than 5 points (Chicken Hand) = no ticket
• Between 5 and 25 points = 1 ticket
• Between 30 and 60 points = 3 tickets
• Between 65 and 155 points = 6 tickets
• 160 points and greater (besides the listed hands) = 10 tickets
• 2.2 Nine Gates = choose a prize
• 3.2.2 Big Three Dragons = choose a prize
• 3.3.3 Little Four Winds = choose a prize
• 3.3.4 Big Four Winds = choose a prize
• 3.4 All Honors = choose a prize
• 4.2.3 Four Concealed Triplets = choose a prize
• 4.3.4 Four Quads = choose a prize
• 5.1.4 Quadruple Sequence = choose a prize
• 7.2.2 Four Pure Shifted Triplets = choose a prize
• 8.1.4 All Terminals = choose a prize
• 9.4.1 Blessings of Heaven = choose a prize
• 9.4.2 Blessings of Earth = choose a prize
• 10.1 Thirteen Orphans = choose a prize

We’ll have one table for Riichi Mahjong set up at the Japanese Friendship Garden’s annual Setsubun Festival, where you’re invited to stop by, enjoy the festival, learn how to play this classic Japanese game, and enjoy a few friendly rounds with us!

Setsubun is a traditional Japanese festival that celebrates the end of winter and the arrival of spring, symbolizing a fresh start and the casting away of bad luck for the year ahead.
