Rail Trails Cycling: Wheeling Heritage & Brooke Pioneer Trails.
Pike Island Locks and Dam, Wheeling, WV, 3709 Warwood Ave, Wheeling, WV, USEnjoy a Saturday, November 15th, 18-mile moderate ride (distance can be adjusted if need be) on paved and flat rail trails with the West Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club, beginning at 10:00 AM at the Pike Island Dam, just a few miles north of Wheeling on WV Rt. 2. We will ride north along the paved and level Wheeling Heritage Trail and Brooke Pioneer Trail toward (and perhaps into) the Brooke County seat of Wellsburg, WV. The Ohio River will be visible from most of the trail and with a little luck we might see an eagle or two. There is no charge for this ride, but donations to the Sierra Club are welcome. If cyclists want to ride longer and farther after we return to our cars, we can head south toward Wheeling for as long and far as interested. Bring your bicycle, water, snacks, and mandatory helmet. Please register and e-sign the required waiver form online at sierraclub.org/west-virginia/events. Click the date (November 15) on the calendar to be taken to the registration page.
