Welcome to our first official event! This is one of my favorite places for a easy hike with so much to see. From their website "Elkhorn Slough is a magical place to visit. Otters and seals play in the estuary. Native plants and wildflowers pepper the valleys and hills overlooking the water. Hundreds of bird species pass through each year as they migrate up and down the Pacific Flyway."
We will have the good fortune of being led by one of their fabulous docents to show us all the park has to offer. The guided hike starts at 10 AM, meet us at the picnic tables if you like at 9:45 to talk about Sierra Club things. If you want to hike the entire trail it's a little over 5 miles. There are lots of side trails that lead back to the parking lot so it's up to you how far you want to go.
They do not allow dogs unfortunately. If you all want in the future we will look for puppy friendly trails and have special outings.
Copied from their website; "The Visitor Center at the Elkhorn Slough Reserve is fully handicap-accessible. There are accessible restrooms as well as an accessible Research and Education Lab. There is a short paved trail to an accessible overlook area with a scope, but the rest of the trails are composed of uneven terrain not suitable for most wheelchairs, those with limited mobility, and strollers. The Reserve also has an off-road wheelchair for loan."
After maybe grab lunch in nearby Castroville, there is a Vegan Taco Truck I have been wanting to sample.
They have water fountains and restrooms available.
I think that is all the info. Let me know if you have any questions.
