Flat Laurel Creek Hike
Location not specified yetWe will begin this stunning hike from Highway 215 at the Flat Laurel Creek trailhead at an elevation of around 5100 feet. The trail climbs up along Flat Laurel Creek passing two waterfalls and has multiple stunning views of the mountains and valleys below. We will take the branch trail to the top of Sam’s Knob (6050 feet) that has 360 degree views! We will then retrace our steps back to the trailhead. This is an area that is partially included in the Roadless Rule, which is endangered now. We will learn about how we can help in the fight to keep these areas roadless!!
This is a moderately difficult hike with about 1100 feet of elevation gain and a round-trip distance of about 7.5 miles. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in West Asheville (text or email Ed to get details) and should be back to the meeting spot around 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.
If anyone is feeling sick, and/or has a fever, they should not attend this outing. Families are welcome! Any children should be accompanied and supervised by parents or other adult family members. Be sure to bring lunch/snacks, water, and extra layers since we will be up high. Rain gear is always a good idea regardless of the forecast!!Please email the hike leader, Ed Maggart, at edmaggart@gmail.com or text at 828-713-0541 to sign up, get meeting location info, or ask any questions. We will limit the group size to 12. I hope to see you there!!
