Please join us this Sunday as we discuss how do we and how should we make moral decisions.
We will meet at the Captain Melville, 34 Franklin Street in Melbourne CBD, at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp.
There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged.
Glen will be leading the discussion this week. We have started to split into two tables to discuss as we have had increased numbers lately, and are looking for regular attendees who would be comfortable leading the discussion on the second table to put their hand up.
Find below some questions to consider, however these are free-ranging events and the below serve as a springboard for the discussion.
Some points and questions to consider

  • How do we actually make moral decisions?
  • Why and when do consequences and outcomes matter?
  • Why and when do rules, duties and principles matter?
  • Why and when do character and judgement matter?
  • When do reasons cause moral decisions, and when do they justify them after the fact?
  • When is moral disagreement a failure of logic, and when a clash of moral sensibilities?
  • Discuss cases where any option would violate a moral value.
  • How can we make better moral decisions?
