What we’re about

We're a group of folks 50 & over who do moderate hikes, mostly in the South Bay on Saturday Mornings and alternating Wednesdays, 6-9 miles max at a moderate pace. For this group it's more about the community, camaraderie and journey than the destination, meet new friends who want to hike, and then go out to lunch after. Sort of like going to party where you get some exercise.
Disclaimer: I'm doing this because I like hiking and meeting such wonderful people. We're all grownups at this point and you're responsible for your health and safety. Hiking and changing weather and trail conditions can be dangerous. By signing up for these events, you agree to release South Bay 50+ Social Hikers and especially me and any other organizers from any responsibility, liability, or claim in law or in equity. If you don't agree to these terms, DO NOT join this meetup event. You are responsible for yourself. Please come prepared with appropriate hiking shoes, gear, water and a sense of humor.

  • Sierra Vista w/ Dong Que

    Sierra Vista w/ Dong Que

Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve, Sierra Rd, San Jose, CA, US

The high elevation of Sierra Vista should provide great views of the South Bay. But, you'll have to earn it. This will be a BOGO free double loop hike on the Boccardo Loop, Weather Loop, Eagle Rock and Todd Quick trails, totaling 6.3 miles and 1450' Elevation gain. Fairly steep inclines and declines, and potentially unyielding cows.
Almost entirely unshaded, but with a 78 degree forecast, while you might not need anti-perspirant, you will need sunscreen, hats and maybe your favorite hiking stick.
There are no restrooms and not a lot of tree cover, so, plan accordingly.
A 40 car free parking lot but as always carpooling encouraged:
