Norrie Point Trail - Staatsburgh
Details
Moderately difficult | 5.5 miles | 3.5 hours | ~400 feet hellevation gain
OMG 40 degrees Saturday! A veritable heat wave. Let's check out the icy Hudson River along a moderate trail that loops from the Staatsburgh State Historic Site down to the Hudson and through the Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park. Halfway in we'll take a break on the dock of the Environmental Center (closed) before heading back through the woods (pending trail conditions).
Sometime after 1:00, we'll reconvene at La Catrina in Hyde Park for some tasty Mexican grub, and a dozen pitchers of margaritas.
Ok, maybe not that much.
Be aware that while the trail itself is only moderately difficult, ice could be exceedingly challenging. Expect highly-irregular slippery lumpy bumpy chunky funky monkey surface conditions. In short, microspikes 1000% required. I don't think snowshoes will cut it since the surface is likely to be hardened snow. But I really dunno. Also be aware that two sections of the hike will be on asphalt, so this may require removing our spikes a couple times. Get over it now.
Looking forward to seeing you--post Arctic freeze!
