Hike Perico Preserve & Robinson Preserve Expansion incl. The Nest (~6.2 miles)
Details
Rise and shine! Let's start the day with a hike at sunrise while enjoying some wildlife!
We will meet shortly before 07:15 AM at the parking lot of Perico Preserve, so we can leave on time.
Located on Perico Island, the 176 acres nature preserve functions as an important wildlife corridor extending east across Perico Bayou into Robinson Preserve. It was acquired by Manatee County in 2007 with the specific purpose of creating a unique bird sanctuary. 206 bird species were recorded!
Shortly after our start we will make a quick stop at the Perico Bird Blind. We will then follow the trail through the Oligohaline Marsh and Freshwater Wetland until we reach the Perico Bayou Observation Deck.
Thereafter, we will connect to Robinson Preserve and stay on the Spoonbill Trail until we reach the Robinson Preserve Expansion. We will then hike the entire length of the Eagle Loop on rubberized surface that will be very easy on your knees. Along the way we will explore The Nest with its Canopy Zone that consists of rope bridges, climbing nets, boardwalks, and slides. Unfortunately, surrounding vegetation was heavily damaged from the last hurricanes. Restrooms will be close by.
After a break we will return back to the parking lot.
Total length of the hike will be around 6.2 miles. Please wear comfortable shoes, protect yourself from the sun and bring along plenty of water, you will need it! A snack might also be a good idea.
This will be a social event and no race. Along the way we will enjoy the wildlife and take plenty of pictures. If you are in a hurry, you will be on your own.
