Rhodes to Concord West via The Brickpit
Details
This urban walk takes us from Rhodes Station through Newington Nature Reserve, along the banks of the Parramatta River and through the Newington Armory. We then continue to Wentworth Common and ascend the Bay Marker for views of Sydney Olympic Park and the surrounding areas. After a break, we will head over to the Brickpit.
The Brickpit Ring Walk is an urban nature park and walkway that serves as a water storage and frog habitat. Once a brick manufacturing site, the land was to be redeveloped as part of the site for the 2000 Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games, however the 1992 discovery of the then endangered Green and Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea) placed a hold on developments. The urban nature park and walkway was established in 2006.
After returning to Wentworth Common, we will have lunch. After lunch we will walk through the Badu Mangroves and Bicentennial Park before finishing at Concord West train station.
The Concord West Hotel across from the station is a great location to socialise after the walk for those so inclined.
We will meet at 10:00am on the Western platform at Rhodes Station.
Bring food/water to enjoy morning tea at the Bay Marker and lunch on Wentworth Common.
A lovely but open walk so bring clothing suitable for sun, wind and rain as there’s not much shelter on the way.
WHAT TO BRING. Please wear good bushwalking shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen, rain jacket, first aid kit and 2L water.
