"Surprises in the City": Fountains, Statues & Installations

ABOUT: A legendary wild boar that promises good fortune, Shakespeare standing with some of his characters, wartime Australian servicewomen, the Greek god Apollo with other mythological associates, an anchor and cannon preserved from "HMS Sirius" that set sail from England to Australia in 1787, and much more - discover the fascinating fountains, statues and installations in CBD along with their stories on Saturday, December 27.
Perfect for those away from family during the Christmas season, keen on socialising and learning something new!
MEETING TIME: 11:15 – 11:45 AM.
MEETING POINT: Outside “Customs House”, 31 Alfred St, Sydney NSW 2000 (close to Circular Quay station). We will assemble at the corner at Loftus Street. You are welcome to buy coffee/snacks from the McDonald’s nearby before the walk begins.
START AND PROGRAMME: We will begin between 11:45 AM and 12 Noon from Customs House, moving towards Museum of Sydney, the Royal Botanic Garden, Hyde Park, QVB… Break midway for those who want to grab drinks and snacks.
END: We will end the walk around 3 PM near Martin Place.
PRICE OF TOUR: Please pay $20 by cash on arrival.
IMPORTANT:
- Please check transport in advance, and make sure you sleep well the night before so you can reach the meeting point on time in the morning.
- Remember to have a good breakfast before arriving which can keep you going during the early afternoon.
- Please message if you are running late.
- Wear comfortable shoes, a hat or cap, sun protection. Please bring a water bottle and an umbrella.
- No additional compulsory costs beyond $20. Drinks and snacks are optional – you may also bring your own.
- Photos of the group will be clicked and may be posted on Meetup and the organiser’s social media platforms. Attendees who do not wish to be photographed must inform the organiser before the tour begins.
- Please update your registration if you are unable to make it to the event.
