Hey SydPHP!

Great news! We are back to our regular schedule and for those with post NZConf / Mid-month SydPHP blues, we have some amazing talks lined up for you.

We will once again return to the Atlassian function() space with an [array] of Beer and Pizza to keep you hydrated and full while you stay entertained by the evenings speakers.

Speakers

Szabolcs Palmer - Yahoo7 - "Use-cases for refactoring to improve testability."

You can hear a lot about how to write code which is unit-testable, and how to do TDD. But many of us usually inherit a codebase which is poorly covered by tests and some parts are not even testable/mockable. This presentation will cover the common use-cases and their workarounds in order to get such a codebase into a better shape.

Ben Corlett: Director at Webcomm, one of the PHP League's founding members and serial Laravel contributor - "So You Can Code…Now What?"

You've read the articles, you've watched the Laracasts, you're a bit of a guru now.

You're ready to go and take the world by storm! Just one thing stands in your way, clients.

Ben's talk will diverge down the exciting, scary and often unclear journey from writing code to running a digital agency or becoming a successful freelancer.

Sub-topics to be discussed include managing client expectations, the justification of architectural decisions, estimating, and of course, getting paid.

This talk will hopefully lead to a culmination of knowledge in a dynamic hour of learning and exploring that will help equip the next good coder to make a career of it!
