What we’re about
This is a social bicycling group. TeamNakagawa is a private group of bicyclists of a very wide range of fitness. From a flat 10 mile (1 hour) pathway ride to a full 100 mile summer century ride, we've got them all. This group started as a training ride group for a charity ride to support the American Diabetes Association. Now it's a social/fitness group supporting a healthier lifestyle, both in mind and in body. Truth is, it's a motivator for me (Captain Kent) to commit to riding every weekend, regardless of the weather!
Starting in March, we will begin to have weekly Saturday morning bike rides, supporting easy, 10-20 mile rides from Champoeg State Park (Newberg) or Lewis and Clark State Park (Troutdale OR). Our rides are self supporting - riders are expected to bring their own water, snacks, repair kits, etc. New riders will learn "the basics" from the experienced riders who are happy to share their knowledge.
As bike season truly begins in May, we'll start posting event rides hosted by the various bike club and charities in the Portland OR area. As our membership grows, all members will have the ability to post rides in different areas of town (such as Champoeg State Park, or the Banks-Vernonia trail).
This meetup costs $25 a month to run. Although I don't charge membership dues, I will call upon the membership to donate to various worthy charities that I support during the course of the season instead. It's all honor system, with my gratitude.

The Lebanon Strawberry Century is not just a cycling event; it's a celebration of community and philanthropy. At the heart of this event continues a commitment to give back, modeled after the generous philanthropy projects the original Strawberry Century event supported over the last three decades. Over the years, the Santiam Spokes Bicycle club supported various initiatives aimed at benefiting the local community, with a particular focus on promoting bike safety among younger students.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this year's Lebanon Strawberry Century is that this year, some of the students who were once beneficiaries of these initiatives are returning to the event as participants and volunteers themselves.

We will be having a ride on the scenic French Prairie region of the valley - Champoeg State Park. Riders will have the option of either no-traffic loops through the park itself (bike trail and low-speed roads create 2-mile loops within the park) or the main ride on a loop tour through St Paul.
From Portland, take I-5 South past Wilsonville and the Champoeg rest area, and exit at Ehlen Rd (you'll see a TA center and a Flying J truck stop). Follow the small state park signs to Champoeg Park. Turn right on Ehlen Rd, Right on Case Rd, Left on Champoeg Rd. You'll see the park entrance a mile to the right.
At the entrance, skip the Visitor Center parking lot and descend to the pay gate (Car fee - $10 w/ CC's ). Once you get your parking ticket, turn left. Follow the road 2 miles to the Riverside Day Use Lot. You'll find me there, along with the rest rooms.

We do not do roll calls, and will not be able to keep track of everybody who is riding. However, we have a wide range of cyclists from beginners to veterans, so please make sure to partner with at least one other person who is riding at your pace. Participants are expected to obey all traffic laws while participating in this event. Participants are expected to support each other for minor repairs (flat tires). Major mechanical failures that require pickup can call Kent (but retrieval will be delayed until he completes his loop and returns to the park). CALL 911 FOR ALL CRASHES AND INJURIES REQUIRING ASSISTANCE.
