Park Specific:
Miles of sand beach, bluffs that tower 450’ above Lake Michigan, lush forests, clear inland lakes, unique flora and fauna make up the natural world of Sleeping Bear Dunes. High dunes afford spectacular views across lake Michigan. Nearby are US Life-Saving Service station Museum, coastal villages (Glen is my favorite), and clear (very cool or cold) water streams and lakes to kayak and fish.
FYI:
The park is 12 miles (as the crow flies) along the coast of Lake Michigan. So, while hiking trails lead out of the campsite and there is a kayak rental near the campsite entrance other sites/places of interest are a few miles away requiring long bike rides or car to and from travel (15- 20 miles each way).
Platte River Campground is an ACTIVE BEAR SITE, take precautions.
