C++ and WebAssembly, the hype and the hope [Virtual Meetup]
Details
Hi everyone! Thursday the 24th of September we’ll have another--most likely awesome--virtual Meetup. WebAssembly is quite a hot topic right now! With that and our recently gained experience in the realm of virtual Meetups, should be a formula for success ;)
Alessandro Pignotti who is the Founder and CTO at Leaning Technologies Ltd will give an introductory WebAssembly talk for us and also Ray Burgemeestre will give a talk about his concurrency adventures in C++.
== Speakers ==
Alessandro Pignotti:
He is the Founder and CTO at Leaning Technologies Ltd, where he makes compilers such as Cheerp, CheerpJ and CheerpX. His younger self also wrote Lightspark: an open source flash player!
Ray Burgemeestre:
He is a Developer at Bright Computing and Founder and organizer of the Dutch C++ Meetup group. Web developer turned systems programmer. Working mostly with C++/python, Kubernetes, and Linux these days.

Alessandro - The rise of WebAssembly: C++ as a first-class language for Web programming
WebAssembly is a new technology for Web programming, now available in all major browsers. While JavaScript is normally hand-written, WebAssembly is intended as a binary compiler target. In short, C++ can now be used to build Web applications. Exciting, but may this be “too good to be true”? In this talk we will discuss what WebAssembly actually is, its limitations and the future plans for this platform.
Ray - How multi-threading became the answer to my problem anyway
The talk is about my lessons learned around the topic of concurrency and takes up 30 (EDIT: 40) minutes. Covering tips and tricks working with a ‘large’ multi-threaded codebase, dealing with deadlocks, crashes, gdb, core dumps, tips and tricks, alternatives to multi-threading, and implementing a simple library that uses standard threads and condition_variables.

The Meetup is virtual and we’ll share the details ASAP. There is a slack group on the official cpplang slack: #ug-nl-dutchcpp -- If you do not have an account yet, it’s possible to get an invite here: https://cppalliance.org/slack/
With the invite register and login at: https://cpplang.slack.com (and join #ug-nl-dutchcpp =))
Hope to see you all there!
