Join us for a night of astrophotography as we capture the sunset and the core of the Milky Way from the coastline of the Mornington Peninsula.

5.00pm: Meet at Sunset location (exact location TBC - Rye Backbeach)

6.30pm: Dinner (Rye Hotel) - let us know in the comments if you will be joining dinner
8.00pm - 9.00pm: Milky Way Photography-the Galaxy Core will be visible from 7.14pm (exact location TBC - Rye Backbeach)

Weather Policy: Astrophotography is highly dependent on clear skies. If the forecast predicts 70% or greater cloud cover, we will cancel the event . Please check this space or the event comments for the "Go/No-Go" status at 7:00 PM on the day before the event.

Camera Gear Suggestions:

• Mirrorless or DSLR Camera (learn how to manual focus - you will be doing it in the dark)
• Lenses for Landscape: wide-angle / telephoto
• Lenses for Astrophotography: wide-angle anywhere between 14mm to 24mm or wider, fast aperture lens f/2.8 or faster (unless if using a star tracker)
• Tripod
• Remote shutter release
• Filters (Optional: ND, polariser)
• Extra Batteries
• A headlamp or torch (preferably with a red-light mode to preserve night vision).
• Warm layers and sturdy footwear

Merri Creek Trail, Fitzroy North to Coburg is an 8km point to point walk with lots of interesting opportunities to photograph along the way. We don't have to drive far and you can catch public transport to get to our starting point, do the walk and catch a tram back to the starting point.

A wonderful walk along the Merri Creek Trail that starts and ends at tram stops. The walk includes some hidden gems as well as a good away of birdlife, the result of many years of replanting indigenous vegetation.

The walk covers about a third of the Merri Creek Trail (the total trail is about 21km from Dights Falls to the Western Ring Road). We will be doing only 8km for this event. It has ben mapped so you can get to the starting point of the walk by tram and we will finish at a tram stop - so you only need to walk in one direction.
The walk will be close to public transport so if anyone decides to leave during the walk, you can catch a tram back to the starting point yourself.

We will start from the corner of Miller St/St Georges Rd, Fitzroy north and finish at Carr St/Sydney Rd, Coburg North.

Note: We will need to use public transport for this event, so please bring along your Myki card.

9:00 am - meet at corner of Miller St/St Georges Rd, Fitzroy north for welcome and briefing. You may wish to catch tram no. 11 and get to stop 25.

9.15am - The walk begins and we explore the area with interesting stops along the way.

12:30 pm - lunch at Jacky Jones Coburg or The Boot Factory (your choice) located at Pentridge Prison.

1.00pm - Can explore the external area of Pentridge Prison (we won't be going into the prison).

2:00 pm - The event ends - catch a tram back to the starting point or to where your car is parked.

This is a weather dependent event - so please check this event page the night before in the event we need to cancel due to bad weather condition.

Ansel Adams and Max Dupain: In Search of Perfection exhibit.

Max Dupain (Australia, 1911-1992) and Ansel Adams (USA, 1902-1984) both well known modernist photographers working on opposite sides of the Pacific shared a profound commitment to formal clarity, tonal precision, and the expressive potential of light. This exhibit brings works from both photographers together along with some works from their peers.

1.45pm - We will start at the exhibit, meeting outside at for a briefing. Spend some time here to take in the differences and similarities of the images.

4.00pm - Then we will head to Brighton Beach for a coffee break (Dendy Beach Pavilion – located near the beach boxes).

5.00pm - Take the opportunity to photograph around the Brighton Beach boxes - consider long exposure and seascape photography.

5.55pm - Sunset photography

6.30pm - Join us for dinner (if you like) at Dendy Deli.

Join us for a wildlife and bird photography session at Banyule Flats Reserve, a 46.47-hectare haven famous for inspiring Heidelberg School artists. Home to over 153 bird species alongside kangaroos, wombats, echidnas, and wallabies, it’s an ideal spot to capture the vibrant nature along the Yarra River and Banyule Swamp.

Schedule
8.30am - Meet at Banyule Flats Reserve Car Park (off Somerset Drive, Viewbank) googlemap link (TBC the trail route)
11.30am - Meet for Brunch - location TBC
12.30pm - Meetup ends

What to Bring:

• Your camera and lens (a telephoto lens is highly recommended, and a wider lens can be useful for habitat shots)
• Tripod (optional but can be helpful for stability, especially with longer lenses)
• Comfortable and quiet walking shoes suitable for varied terrain
• Water and snacks
• Appropriate clothing for the weather and potentially muddy conditions
• Your respect for nature and a keen eye for detail!

Target Birds (we may or may not find):
Ducks & Grebes: Pacific Black Duck, Chestnut Teal, Pink-eared Duck, Musk Duck, and Hoary-headed / Australasian Grebes.
Kingfishers: Sacred Kingfisher and Azure Kingfisher
Parrots & Honeyeaters: Red-rumped Parrot, Australian King-Parrot, Eastern & Crimson Rosellas, Rainbow & Musk Lorikeets, Gang-gang Cockatoo.

• Please be mindful of noise and movement to avoid disturbing potential subjects.
