About us
Want to hike with others but cannot meet early in the am or hike for 4-6 hours? Do you find yourself hanging in the back of the pack with the sweep on other meetup hikes? Then, this is the group for you!
We are slower walkers (25-30mins per mile) that like to enjoy the scenery and the company. It’s more than just exercise and getting through the route as fast as you can. Walking in nature clears your mind and allows you to reconnect with yourself and your surroundings.
Our hikes will usually be 3 to 5 miles in Contra Costa and Bay Area. Explore the trails with us! All ages welcome.

Black Diamond Star Mine [5 miles]
Black Diamond Mines - Frederickson gate, Frederickson Lane, Antioch, CA, USJoin Randy in Black Diamond Regional Park for a scenic, mud-free hike along the Stewartsville and Star Mine Trails. This hike is a little under 5 miles, with a gradual elevation gain of less than 600 feet. We will stop for lunch at the Star Mine picnic structure at the hike half way point. After lunch, we will side track for a quick mine tunnel exploration. The Prospect Tunnel is 400 feet long in total, with 200 feet open for exploration by flashlight. 😮 The tunnel was driven in the 1860s by miners looking for commercial coal. Those who have already walked the tunnel, or don't wish to, can continue back to the parking lot after lunch.
There is no restroom at the hike starting point, but there is a restroom at the mid point lunch stop on the hike. There is no parking fee. Friendly dogs on a leash are welcome on this hike.
Hike start location: Park at the very end of Frederickson Lane. https://maps.app.goo.gl/A9oMHALdio2hM9gu6
