What we’re about
A book club where you can read whatever you like and connect with like minded people- Silent Book Club- Toronto Downtowners.
The city can be a social closed place where there are no connections. Toronto Downtowners come together to read quietly with people who love the joy of reading.
We will meet 183 Gallery a downtown art gallery with a cozy lower lounge area where you can help yourself to the PWC Tea/Coffee/Cookie bar for first 30 mins. Real cups to be used- no paper other than our books.
We will read silently for an hour.
We will socialize for the last 30 mins. Knowing we had a special moment with our book.

Madelaines immortalized by the Friench writer Marcel Proust
“And suddenly the memory returns. The taste was that of the little crumb of madeleine which on Sunday mornings at Combray…when I went to say good day to her in her bedroom, my aunt Léonie used to give me, dipping it first in her own cup of real or of lime-flower tea. The sight of the little madeleine had recalled nothing to my mind before I tasted it; perhaps because I had so often seen such things in the interval…But when from a long-distant past nothing subsists, after the people are dead, after the things are broken and scattered…the smell and taste of things remain poised a long time, like souls, ready to remind us, waiting and hoping for their moment.”
