Twin Cities Hiking Meetup

Please read before signing up to ensure this hike works with your fitness level.
HIKE STUFF:
This is a 6.5 mile, mostly paved trail. We will keep a brisk pace, approximately a 17 minute mile. If you don’t know how fast that is, assume it’s quite fast! Please consider the length and pace when signing up as I will not have someone to stay behind with slower walkers. Water bottle strongly recommended.

Meet in front of the Longfellow Grill. Easiest parking is on the street nearby. We will go north along the west side of the river, cross along the light rail U of M station to the Weisman Museum, and head south on the east side, returning across the bridge at Lake Street.

Please update your RSVP in a timely fashion. No shows are a bummer because they prevent other hikers from joining. By signing up for this hike, you assume all responsibility for your safety and well-being and release our hikers, organizers, event organizers, and members from any and all personal injury and property damage liability.
No pets, no kids, no +1s. Only TCH meetup event registered hikers.

The Murphy-Hanrehan hike is a challenging hike. The trail is rough (dirt, loose gravel, rocks and roots). The hills are steep (and there are a lot of them), the distance is long (6 miles plus), and the pace is fast (16 – 16.5-minute miles). This hike was designed for the fit, experienced hiker who wants a good workout. This is not a hike for the casual hiker.

HOWEVER, Murphy-Hanrehan Park is a beautiful park that many hikers could truly appreciate. It offers a rustic walk in the woods. With that in mind, we provide a second hiking option that is shorter and slower than the regular Murphy hike. The trail is still rough. The hills are still steep (although there aren’t nearly as many). The hike is shorter (about 4.5 miles) and the pace is slower (18-20-minute miles, and slower yet on the hills). It’s a hike that most casual hikers could enjoy.

We will meet at 9:00 AM at the MTB Trailhead Parking Lot in the Murphy-Hanrahan Park Reserve in Savage. We will get going by 9:05, so don't be late. You may choose either the fast 6 plus mile hike, or the slower 4.5 mile hike. We will hike in light rain, but if conditions look too bad, we will cancel the hike by 7:30 am.

There are restroom facilities and water available. We will start on time if everyone is there, but will only wait five minutes past the hour for late comers.

If your plans have changed and you are unable to attend, update your RSVP in a timely manner so we are not waiting for you at the start and to allow those on the waitlist to attend. Hikers who are no-shows may not be permitted to attend future hikes. Keep your RSVP current.

We are moving to Ft Snelling State Park. Hike is at 5:30 pm ct. This is a moderate fitness speed hike, so it's meant to be not too fast, not too slow, 4-5 miles for approximately 1.5 hours. Exact route can change based on path's conditions or just to make things interesting.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear appropriate and comfortable footwear. We hike rain or shine (but not if there is a tornado watch/warning, hail, or lightning) Also, if you can't make it -- be nice and cancel as soon as you find out -- at least 24 hours in advance whenever possible.
