For people who are spiritually experimental and Jesus-friendly, who question authority yet believe Christian tradition still holds medicine worth reclaiming. Wanderers, wonderers, heathens, and wizards are welcomed.
Let's playfully assume that belief itself is a tool: a way we choose for orienting ourselves to the world, shaping our attention, and changing how and what we experience.
If that's so, then "myth" and "history" behave the same way; we can be less concerned with debating whether it is true and get on with noticing what happens to us when we try it on.
So: what if Jesus was understood less as an object of worship and more as healer, exorcist, teacher, and guide -- someone showing how human consciousness could be trained, aligned, and put to work for wonderworking in the world?
We will use the Fillmore Wings curriculum, developed out of the early Unity movement, as a platform for study and discussion. Together, we will explore how ideas, prayer, and meditation were treated as techniques for training consciousness, rather than dogma to accept or reject. If you have done 12-Step -- or other forms of "shadow work" -- you'll recognize the flavor: daily practice, personal inventory, and ongoing attention as the Way to living transformation.
The series begins with Fillmore Wings Lesson 4: The Body of Christ, exploring the "body" as a living, conscious force: restoration of individuals, restitution of the earth, and spirituality as the foundation of community. We will consider Jesus as a model of aligned consciousness, and unpack the deeper meanings of the Lord's Supper, other sacraments, and Sabbath principles -- all approached as practical guides for engaging consciousness in daily life.
