A Java Performance Tuning Methodology
One of the challenges I found when assisting teams investigating performance regressions is that they often didn’t know where to start or how to progress. In this talk I’d will introduce a methodology to address those challenges. After presenting the methodology we’ll apply it by working through a couple of performance regression together.
Kirk Pepperdine has been performance tuning Java applications for more than 20 years. In 2005, Kirk co-authored the industry's first Java Performance Tuning workshop with Jack Shirazi. Since then, Kirk has written many articles and spoken at many conferences and user groups about performance tuning. In 2006, Kirk was named a Java Champion for his voice in the performance tuning space. In 2008, Kirk authored the first iteration of a Java performance tuning methodology (JPDM). He is the primary developer of GCToolKit, a library for reading garbage collection logs that is currently being used by many GC analysis tools. Kirk is currently a Principal Technical Account Manager at Azul Systems.
