Whether or not there is ice on the lake or snow on the ground, a great diversity of birds can be found at Marsh Creek SP in the winter.

The 535-acre Marsh Creek Lake is the centerpiece of the park. It is the largest and deepest body of water in Chester County, so parts of it remain unfrozen even in the coldest weather and serve as a refuge for ducks, grebes, geese, gulls, and even loons. The fields and woods which surround the lake harbor a great variety of birds that can only be found in this area in the winter, such as kinglets, sapsuckers, hermit thrushes, brown creepers, and winter wrens.

We will meet at the boat house parking lot at the main day use area on Park Rd (not on the west side!) where we will scan the lake with our shared spotting scope. Then our route will take us along the shoreline of the lake and into the woods before we loop back to our starting point, travelling about a mile on a mixture of gravel and earthen paths.

Dress warmly - the wind off the lake can be biting. Please bring binoculars if you have them and if you have a spotting scope you may want to bring that too. All ages and experience levels are welcome, including those new to birding. A portable toilet is available on site.
