What we’re about

Driven by women, Wāhine Fuelled Tech provides a safe and supportive environment that empowers you to develop your technology skills, your career and your network.

All are welcome, you don't need to identify as female or be currently working in tech to participate. We expect all our members and attendees (including those attending events as members' guests) to be respectful of, and behave appropriately towards, all other participants.

We also have this Wāhine Fuelled Tech calendar, which gives an overview of all sorts of tech- and diversity-related events happening in Wellington. If you have anything to add to the calendar, please message the group organisers.

We are always looking for volunteers, speakers and topics - if you would like to present, host, sponsor or help organise any of our events or activities, please contact the organisers - we'd love to hear from you!

Come along for an evening of creativity, big ideas, and future-shaping stories! We’re bringing together three incredible women who are breaking new ground in animation, games, VR, and design. From building feature films to creating award-winning games, they’ll share how they’re pushing the limits of technology and imagination.

Raqi Syed – A visionary in VR narrative and animation, Raqi is the Director of the Miramar Creative Centre for Victoria University. She is pioneering academic and research pathways for “createch” fields while developing a feature animation film. Raqi’s work explores how emerging technologies like AI are transforming the future of animation.

Heli Salomaa – Costume designer for both real and digital worlds, Heli has worked on Control and Pax Dei and now leads VUW’s Fashion Design Technology programme. She’s passionate about bringing costume designers into game development to make characters truly come alive.

Stephanie Parker – Co-Founder of Floating Rock and the creative energy behind its IP incubator, Pitchfest. With animation credits on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Angry Birds, she’s all about building spaces where bold ideas can flourish.

Whether you’re in creative tech, running a start-up, studying, investing, teaching, or just curious about how creativity and technology collide, you’ll love this event. No insider knowledge required, just an open mind!
