Abstract
SaaS platforms have become ubiquitous and are saving countless productivity hours for both small and large companies, who externalize the complexities of operating complex IT systems to SaaS vendors, and as a result can focus on their money-making core product or service delivery. As with everything that is made simple to consume, SaaS platforms are susceptible to cyber risks just like any other IT systems. This talk is meant to plant the seed of securing SaaS platforms, starting by defining them, introducing the shared responsibility model, running a sample threat model, and discussing best practices and tooling. As companies start trusting SaaS platforms with hosting their most critical business data (think sales, product schematics, marketing strategy etc.) business owners and IT administrators alike need to understand the cyber risks implications and plan for remediating controls according to their budget, risk appetite and technology maturity.
