Outbreak! - An epidemiology mystery

Detalles
Welcome to 1850s London. Queen Victoria is on the British throne, the Industrial Revolution is at its peak, and a deadly disease outbreak is sweeping through the streets of Soho, London.

In this extra-special mystery session, we’ll be joined by Dr Cristina Bocanegra from PROSICS (https://barcelonaprosics.wordpress.com), expert in International & Humanitarian Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
We will be investigating this mysterious outbreak, exploring some of the key themes and techniques in epidemiology (the study of incidence, distribution and possible control of diseases and public health), and thinking about how ideas first developed in the 1850s are still used today in understanding modern-day epidemics, such as Ebola, Zika Virus and Influenza.
In this fascinating hands-on social workshop, we’ll be using all our skills and creativity to work together to solve the puzzle.
We will also be very lucky to experience a demonstration of how to put on a Hazmat suit, and learning about the valuable work of PROSICS (https://barcelonaprosics.wordpress.com/) in Barcelona (website (https://barcelonaprosics.wordpress.com/)).

Remember to RSVP so we can ensure you're on the list, and feel free to bring along your friends. We'll all go out together for drinks after the event as well.
Although the content of our events is in English, our attendees are usually from different countries, so our group activities tend to be in English and Spanish.
--------
Who are we?
We're a friendly bunch of adults who are curious about the weird and wonderful science of the things we see every day. In every session we set a theme, and then explore a couple of different hands-on activities and games together to learn about what?, how? and why? things work the way that they do.
We come from all different educational and professional backgrounds, and you don't need any previous science experience to come along, play, and meet new people.
--------

What will it look like?

I'm a board-game loving science geek (and freelance project manager in healthcare communications) from London. I started Barcelona Fun Science to create new ways for curious non-scientific adults to explore scientific ideas, and to feel confident asking questions about how the world around them works in an informal, social and fun environment.
In addition to the Barcelona Fun Science public meetup events, I also run private science events for teambuilding, parties and groups, and communications & innovation training.
Check out our website (http://www.barcelonafunscience.com) or get in touch for more information about our private events, training and science advocacy work.
