The tour starts at 19:30 sharp - don't be late!
Barcelona is full of amazing, exciting scientific institutions, innovators and world-leading research centers. Here at Barcelona Fun Science, we love creating opportunities for you, our community, to expore these spaces, connect with the professionals who are part of this, and have the opportunity to ask questions and be curious!
In this spirit, we are very excited to announce our latest exclusive field trip! On Monday 2nd October, we will be going on an extra-special out-of-hours visit to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (https://www.bsc.es/), home to MareNostrum (https://www.bsc.es/marenostrum/marenostrum), the most powerful supercomputer in Spain!

Ever wondered what a processing power of 11.5 Petaflops looks like? (eleven thousand trillion operations per second) - come join us on a 45-minute guided tour of this incredible local resource, which is an international center of excellence in e-Science and one of the resources that helps keep Barcelona at the cutting edge of Spanish science.
We will be learning all about the technical details of MareNostrum (1, 2, 3 and 4!), understanding the history and background behind how one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe came into being in Barcelona, and thinking about applications and uses for such incredible processing power - all in the beautiful setting of the 19th Century Torre Girona Chapel.

A huge thank you to community member Ernest, who was heavily involved in building MareNostrum over many years, and who helped us to arrange our exclusive out-of-hours visit and guided tour.

As we have a private tour in the evening outside of the normal visiting times, there is a small charge of 8EUR per person, to cover the cost of the visit.
The tour is strictly limited to 30 people, and will last until 20:15 (45 minutes). Afterwards, we will all go to a bar together to talk about the visit and what we have learned in a social environment.
Remember to RSVP to guarantee your place, and feel free to bring along your friends too!

Who are Barcelona Fun Science?
We're a friendly bunch of adults who are curious about the weird and wonderful science of the things we see every day. In every session we set a theme, and then explore a couple of different hands-on activities and games together to learn about what?, how? and why?things work the way that they do.
We come from all different educational and professional backgrounds, and you don't need any previous science experience to come along, play, and meet new people.

--------
--------
Look forward to seeing you there!

I'm a board-game loving science geek (and freelance project manager in healthcare communications) from London. I started Barcelona Fun Science to create new ways for curious non-scientific adults to explore scientific ideas, and to feel confident asking questions about how the world around them works in an informal, social and fun environment.
In addition to the Barcelona Fun Science public meetup events, I also run private science events for teambuilding, parties and groups, and communications & innovation training.
Check out our website or get in touch for more information about our private events, training and science advocacy work.
