Mathesson Hammock Historic Walk
Detalles
Matheson Hammock Walk led by Cesar. Cost $25.00 per person.
It was our very first protected park - in Dade County proper - but a ccc camp during the depression enhanced it and mimicked another park in the Everglades before there was a park. Historian Cesar Becerra unveils the mysteries and hidden gems of the park as well as Matheson the man and leads us on a walk that includes a behind the scenes peek at "the back 40" of this beloved park.
Come and learn about the when, how and why this 630 acre park was founded, as we walk in the footsteps of the original inhabitants. We will explore the west side of the park before crossing Old Cutler Rd and slowly meander through the park to the beach and kayak launch for about 3 hours. The Trail varies from gravel to paved surfaces to dirt and sand.
Arrive by 8:30 am at West Matheson Hammock Park, 9800 Old Cutler Road. The gravel parking lot on the west side of Old Cutler Road just before Fairchild Tropical Garden entrance as you head south. The tour starts at 9:00am. If you would like to attend this hike please contact Katia Gauchier at planetcesar2024@gmail.com for your reservation and payment.
