What happens to us psychologically when we leave one country and build a life in another?

Join psychoanalyst, anthropologist, and author Leide Porcu for an interactive evening inspired by her book, Neither Here Nor There: A Guide for Immigrants and the Therapists Who Walk With Them.

Immigration can bring opportunity, discovery, freedom, and growth — but also loss, disorientation, changes in identity, and questions about where we belong. Together, we’ll explore both the challenges and the richness of immigration, the enormous diversity of migration experiences, and some of the common themes that can emerge when we build a life across cultures.

What do we gain when we immigrate, and what do we leave behind? How does our sense of home change? What happens to identity, language, relationships, and belonging? And what does it mean when more than one place begins to feel like home?

Drawing from her own experience as an immigrant, her clinical work, and the ideas developed in Neither Here Nor There, Leide will offer practical tools for making sense of our individual journeys, strengthening resilience, and thriving across cultures.

The evening will be conversational and interactive, with opportunities to reflect, share experiences, and join the discussion. Participation is entirely optional — you are just as welcome to come, listen, and enjoy the conversation.

Whether you have immigrated yourself, grew up between cultures, work with immigrant communities, support people navigating cultural transitions, or are simply curious about the experience, you are warmly welcome.
