Julia was originally seen as a replacement for programming languages such as Matlab when tackling problems in the scientific domain. In the world of Big Data, Python and R are currently seen to be the best options. However the growth of data over the next five years, both structured and unstructured, will present a variety of new challenges and this talk discusses some of the features peculiar to Julia: posing the question whether it is destined to become a natural fit for the data science analytics in the near future.
Dr. Malcolm Sherrington has been involved in provision of I.T. systems for over 30 years, working on a wide range of projects in Aerospace, Healthcare and Finance, as well as teaching at universities in London and Brighton. He is the author of a book on "Mastering Julia", the founder and organiser of the London Julia Users meetup group.
