On Saturday the 28th of March, we will visit Okahukura peninsula for a day hike to some of the coastline from Oruawharo heads to Manukapua island. The peninsula is within the Kaipara harbour and is the largest in the southern hemisphere.

馃毄 Summary of details:
馃搶 Duration: About 6.5 hours including breaks
馃搶Distance: 17.2km
馃搶Map of hike: https://tinyurl.com/2bd2zrnk
馃搶Difficulty: On our 1-5 scale, about 3.0-3.5 (overall)

馃毄Saturday hike:
Oruawharo heads to Manukapua island
We commence at Journeys End Road where we first cross private forestry land (permission granted) to reach the high point of Oruawharo heads at 155m high. This area has been recently milled, however it is still worth crossing through this area. After about 45 minutes we get to the coastline where we follow it until we cross an estuary near Birds Beach. It should be mainly sand under foot rather than mud. The tide will not be at lowest point at this time so be prepared to get wet. You may be swimming a very short distance. It will be a good idea to bring water proof bags, or a water proof day pack. After we cross this estuary, we reach a sand island that take us to Manukapua island and the access road back to the finish. From there a car shuttle will be organised to take us back to the start.
(Estimated time 6 to 6.5 hours including breaks)
