The late 19th century was the time for the Mining Heyday that turned La Union into the capital of the then so-called ‘Southern European California’. This was made posible on account of the mining works carried out in its nearby ‘magical’ mountain, ‘Cabezo Rajao’, the first spot where Romans found gold and silver in ancient times, and also the spark that lit the fever for that second mining age, when the main mineral was lead. This tour takes you first to that neglected mining hill, to later stroll through La Union’s Old Town, to enjoy the magnificent buildings brought along by that sudden wealth, to finally drop you by an old tavern that still retains the atmosphere of those bygone days, the locally famous Bodega Lloret.
