Whether you’re a first-time blogger or seasoned developer, there’s always more to learn. From community members all over the world, the vast resources available on Learn WordPress will help you learn more about WordPress and teach it to others.

One of the best ways to learn is through collaborative discussions with others. The meetups here bring together people around the content hosted on learn.wordpress.org for live discussions and learning. We share knowledge, exchange ideas, and learn from each other. When you sign up for a meetup, please take the time to watch the suggested workshop(s) in advance where necessary.

You must agree to the code of conduct in order to participate in these online workshops. Some online workshops are recorded – you will be notified of this as you join the session and, if you do not wish to appear in the recording, you can choose to opt-out entirely or simply hide your video so you are not visible. Recordings will be published on WordPress.tv after the event has taken place.

In this next installment of Developer Hours, we will explore how to extend core WordPress blocks and why this approach can be preferred over creating a custom block. Extension techniques also allow you to curate the editing experience within WordPress beyond simply adding new functionality.

The session will begin with a presentation on the fundamentals of block extension. Then we will cover practical examples of adding new features to existing blocks, utilizing hooks for advanced extensions, and modifying block behavior to suit your unique site requirements.

Once upon a time there was a Page that didn’t fit in with the other pages in a WordPress site.. This Page knew it was different but just couldn’t figure out why. All the Page knew is that the other pages were very different. They just weren’t as dynamic. The Page knew it had to find a place where it belonged.

This is the story of the Custom Post Type that started as a Page and its journey to find its own place in the big World of the WordPress Admin and the Template Hierarchy.

Join us as we discover why not every page is a page.

The main goal of the Interactivity API is to provide a standard and simple way to handle the frontend interactivity of Gutenberg blocks. This standard would make it easier for developers to create rich, interactive user experiences, from simple cases like counters or popups to more complex features like instant search, or carts and checkouts. In this session, you will learn more about this new developer API, through a live coding example.

If you want to work with me during this session, you will need the following:

A local WordPress installation.

A text editor to edit WordPress files.

Node.js and npm installed to edit a block plugin. You can follow this tutorial to install this software.

I will be using Visual Studio Code as my code editor for the workshop.

Level: All levels welcome
