Climate justice often feels abstract and distant, but our upcoming event aims to bring it closer to home. Join us for an enlightening discussion that bridges global and local perspectives. Our speakers will explore the deep-rooted causes of the climate crisis and how they intersect with other pressing social issues such as gender, race, class, and inequality.
What is Climate Justice?
"Climate justice" is not just a term; it’s a movement that acknowledges the disproportionate social, economic, and public health impacts of climate change on disinvested populations. Advocates for climate justice are committed to addressing these inequities through long-term mitigation and adaptation strategies.
Featured Speakers:
- Brandee Butler, Deputy Director of the Global Fund for Human Rights
Brandee will speak on environmental racism in a global context, providing concrete examples of resistance and movements from Honduras to Thailand. She will also explore the roots of the climate crisis and its intersections with social issues like race, class, and inequality.
- Stella Alais, Founder of AMRA (Asociación de Mujeres Racializadas y Afrodescendientes)
Stella will share insights from her work in Llobregat, focusing on rebuilding community in a fragmented, working-class neighborhood and addressing the multifaceted challenges faced by women from ethnic minority backgrounds. Her talk will also highlight how these challenges are connected to broader social justice issues intertwined with the climate crisis.
We hope this event will ignite your interest and curiosity in climate justice movements, both locally and globally. Please join us for this meaningful discussion.
