What's Really Behind Incident Metrics?
Though targets aimed at reducing incident numbers might seem helpful, they rest on several questionable assumptions. Join us to explore the myths behind the goal of having fewer incidents.
The third in a four-part 2025 series, this meetup is all about incident response, designed to foster a community where we can discuss challenges, share insights, and offer practical recommendations to improve organisational response strategies. Expect a mix of war stories, real-world examples, and actionable takeaways you can bring back to your own organisation.
The event will be split into two parts:
Part 1: Presentation
Is Having Fewer Incidents Always Good? by Hamed Silatani, Founder of Uptime Labs
Fewer incidents might sound like the ultimate goal - but is it always a sign of success? In this provocative session, Hamed challenges conventional thinking around incident metrics. Are we celebrating too early when numbers go down? Could fewer incidents mean we're missing opportunities to learn, improve or catch deeper system issues? This talk explores the nuanced reality behind the numbers and why the quality of response might matter more than the quantity of occurrences.
Part 2: Panel Session
A follow-up panel discussion exploring how organisations can build resilience through effective incident response - not just by reducing incidents, but by learning from them. We'll dive into the cultural challenges and real-life stories that demonstrate how 'fewer incidents' doesn't always show the full picture. Panel TBC.Agenda
