Anime and Fantasy Music Night with Richard Powers at Friday Night Waltz, 4/17

This is Richard's last FNW until June.
From sweeping, grandiose scores of Final Fantasy to Miyazaki, the anime and fantasy waltz music tonight is beautiful, lush and gorgeous. Then for contrast, videogame swing, tango and hustle music is sometimes eccentric and always spirited. Escape from today into a fantasy world for a night, and bring a friend!

Richard Powers teaches a special class from 7:15 to 9 pm with Tracey. Richard is our dance music DJ from 9 to 11:45pm.

7:15 to 9 pm - THE REDOWA, Air Redowa, Polka-time Redowa, Cross-Step Redowa and Waterfall Redowa. The Redowa is pure exhilaration—the closest you'll get to soaring through the air with a partner in your arms. This legendary waltz variation is usually danced when waltz music is especially energetic. All of the annual Viennese Ball waltz contests have been won by a couple that included the Redowa in their variations, but beyond the accolades, it’s danced mostly for the joy and freedom it unleashes.

The class will also include the Air Redowa, which is a contemporary version that can be done to waltz, polka or 5/4 music. Cross-Step Redowa is in Richard's book Cross-Step Waltz (Chapter 34: Creative Interpretations), but he has not yet taught it at Friday Night Waltz.

Familiarity with the Rotary Waltz, or being a quick learner in partner dancing, is recommended for this class. If you already Redowa, come for these new redowa variations, or just for the joy of dancing Redowa.

If you're a beginner, we will have a second room for teaching a true beginner's waltz class. This is a great class for people who are just now starting out learning dancing in general and waltz in particular. 7:15 to 8:00 introduction to social dancing 8:00 to 9:00 Beginner Waltz.

These are ALL-LEVELS CLASSES, no previous experience required.

9 pm - Dance Party! Waltz, swing, polka, cha-cha, cross-step waltz, BNP, salsa, Tokyo Polka, Lindy, tango, Romany Polka, WCS, hustle and more, to anime, game and fantasy music!

Doors open at 6:45.
Class starts at 7:15. Please arrive 15 minutes early to avoid the rush.
$15 general. $10 for students with ID.
Cash, Check, Credit Card, Apple Pay. We do not accept Venmo. Tickets at the door.
No partner necessary. We rotate rapidly in class.
All Ages. Casual comfortable attire.
