In September, we're getting into the weeds of this. Our theme is "From Prompts to Products": what AI actually makes amazingly easy, and where the new bottlenecks are.

In a matter of minutes, a product goes from a blank page to working, live on stage. The community chooses the idea being built, so nobody in the room knows exactly how it'll go, including the person building it.

**Product Management, Demystified: A Guided Tour Through the Discipline**

**What to expect:**
Product management is one of the most decisive and often misunderstood roles in digital companies. Is it project management with a fancier title? Mini-CEO? Backlog administrator? None of the above.
In this session, Lutz gives a structured introduction to digital product management, based on his new textbook. In an opening talk (\~30 min), he walks through the core of the discipline: what makes digital products different, what "product success" actually means, and how the craft breaks down into its key practices — from Product Discovery and Product Direction to Delivery, Diffusion Data, and a new learning loop.
The second half is deliberately open: we'll pick two or three tension points from the talk — e.g., project thinking vs. product thinking, output vs. outcome, or how GenAI is shifting the role — and discuss them together. Bring your questions, your skepticism, and your war stories from your own organization.

**About Lutz**
Lutz Göcke is Professor of Digital Management at Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, where he founded and leads the B.A. program in Digital Product Management and the university's startup incubator, HIKE. Before academia, he spent eight years as a digital product manager at Volkswagen. He teaches and researches at the intersection of digital products, business models, and how agentic AI is reshaping product teams. He is co-author of Produktmanagement: Kontinuierliche Innovation digitaler Produkte (Springer Gabler, 2026), a comprehensive German-language textbook on digital product management.

We'd of course be especially glad if attendees have already read Lutz's book and bring that into the discussion though naturally, that's entirely optional.

**Was euch erwartet:**
Produktmanagement ist eine der wichtigsten und zugleich oft missverstandenen Rollen in digitalen Unternehmen. Ist es Projektmanagement mit schickerem Titel? Mini-CEO? Backlog-Verwalter? Nichts davon.
In dieser Session gibt Lutz eine strukturierte Einführung in das digitale Produktmanagement, basierend auf seinem neuen Lehrbuch. In einem einleitenden Vortrag (\~30 Min.) führt er durch den Kern der Disziplin: Was digitale Produkte anders macht, was „Produkterfolg" eigentlich bedeutet und wie sich das Handwerk in seine wichtigsten Praktiken gliedert von Product Discovery und Product Direction über Delivery bis hin zu Diffusion Data und einem neuen Lernkreislauf.
Die zweite Hälfte ist bewusst offen gestaltet: Wir greifen zwei oder drei Spannungsfelder aus dem Vortrag auf z. B. Projektdenken vs. Produktdenken, Output vs. Outcome oder wie GenAI die Rolle verändert und diskutieren gemeinsam darüber. **Über Lutz**
Lutz Göcke ist Professor für Digital Management an der Hochschule Nordhausen, wo er den Bachelorstudiengang Digital Product Management sowie den Startup-Inkubator der Hochschule, HIKE, gegründet hat und leitet. Vor seiner akademischen Laufbahn war er acht Jahre lang als Digital Product Manager bei Volkswagen tätig. Er lehrt und forscht an der Schnittstelle von digitalen Produkten, Geschäftsmodellen und der Frage, wie agentenbasierte KI Produktteams verändert. Er ist Co-Autor von „Produktmanagement: Kontinuierliche Innovation digitaler Produkte" (Springer Gabler, 2026), einem umfassenden deutschsprachigen Lehrbuch zum digitalen Produktmanagement.

In September, ProductTank will be returning to 5 Degrés to talk about AI with a fresh perspective. Pushing beyond the tools and tech, we'll be discussing real adoption. Kevin Stewart will be joining us all the way from the UK, and the 5 Degrés team will share their experiences of real transformations.

**Designing for Adoption: Turning AI Strategy Into Live Value**

*In a recent engagement with a UK critical infrastructure organisation, we were asked to shape an AI strategy. The obvious move was to start with data platforms and tooling. We didn’t.*

*Instead, we treated AI as a business-wide capability, horizontal, decentralised, and designed for real teams to adopt, not a vertical programme owned by “tech”. That shift forced us to look through multiple lenses: value and prioritised use cases, people and culture, risk and ethics, operating model changes, enabling tech foundations, and the measures that would prove it was working, or equally wasnt.*

*This talk is a story: the frameworks we used, what surprised us, and the choices that moved AI from “interesting” to meaningfully in production and adopted, rather than a bolt-on gimmick. You’ll leave with a practical framework you can reuse, plus a few workshop patterns to get started quickly.*

*And we’ll end with a provocation: at a moment when product people feel threatened by AI, they may be the best placed to lead intelligence transformation.*
