Start: 2026-11-27T15:00:00.000Z

***Please read the entire trip description before signing up***

**The fee for this trip is $4 per person. You will only be refunded if you cancel if someone else takes your place. Please send me your contact info when signing up if we have not met or you will be placed on the waitlist.**

**The Fiery Gizzard is located in the South Cumberland Recreation Area and is considered to be one of the most scenic hikes in the region.**

**There will be 2 options for Saturday:**

**Option 1: Easy beginner hike: Meet at the Foster Falls trailhead at 11:00 am Saturday and hike 2.5 fairly flat miles to the Small Wilds campsite. Hike out the same route on Sunday. This is a short, easy hike, but you will enjoy beautiful Foster Falls and numerous vistas overlooking the gorge.**

**Option 2: Difficult advanced hike: Meet at the Foster Falls trailhead at 8:00 am central Saturday morning, leave some cars and shuttle to the Grundy Forest trailhead. Hike approx. 10 miles to the Small Wild campsite and meetup with the rest of the group. We'll pick up the cars at the Grundy Forest trailhead on the drive out Sunday.**

**When you sign up for this trip, let me know which hike option you plan on doing. This will be a "go at your own pace" hike, so come prepared with a map and the ability to navigate yourself on the trail.**

**My number is 615.584.4953. If we haven't hiked with you previously, send one of us a Meetup message or text with your contact info when you RSVP. If we don't receive your contact info, your spot will go to the next person on the waitlist. Please RSVP with integrity....canceling at the last minute keeps someone else from attending.**

Fiery Gizzard Overnight Backpack

Foster Falls

Hi everyone! Let’s take a ladies weekend trip to Savage Gulf. I’ve reserved campsites at Meadow Creek Campground. Saturday morning, we will meet at 10am central at the Savage Gulf East Trailhead and backpack 5.3 miles to the campsite via the Savage Day Loop and North Plateau Trails. There is a seasonal water source near camp. Sunday morning, we will hike back to our cars.

This trip is suitable for beginners who are conditioned to the mileage. Well behaved dogs are welcome.

If I have not hiked with you before, please send me a Meetup message or text at 615-390-6083 to get off the waitlist.

The cost is $4/pp to reimburse campsite fees. You can bring cash or I have Venmo and PayPal.

Bear food safety is required! This means an Ursack, bear canister, or proper food bag hang

Everyone should have a map and be able to navigate independently. Avenza has free maps of all TN State Parks.

Carpooling plans can be discussed individually.

Please RSVP with integrity! Let me know if you have any questions.

Savage Gulf overnight - Ladies only trip!

Savage Gulf East Trailhead

***Please read the entire trip description before signing up (Seriously, you should read it).***

Join me on a relatively easy hike to enjoy the Big South Fork NRRA. Intro to Backpacking class attendees attend the trip free of charge (if they have not already had their free trip). For all others, it will be $5/person to cover permit fees. You may pay via Venmo (preferred), Paypal, or Cashapp.

**Saturday**: We will meet at the Twin Arches parking lot at 12:00 noon Central Time (1:00 Eastern Time). From the Twin Arches parking lot we will hike down to see the arches. We will then continue on to Jake's Place and camp there if it's available. If it is not there are a few nice places down the Slave Falls trail. From the trail head this is 2.5-3 miles depending where we camp. For those who would like to see slave falls we can hike the 3-3.5 mile round trip from camp.

**Sunday**: We will complete the loop, passing Charit Creek Lodge on the way back to the parking lot. This will be about 2-2.5 miles with a good amount of uphill hiking but nothing too difficult. If you're interested in joining me, I plan to stop at Beaty's Wildwood Grocery for a post-hike meal.

**Travel plans:** We will meet at the trailhead at 12:00 noon central time. This is about a 2.5 hour drive from Nashville. I encourage carpooling, since parking is limited. I will meet anyone interested in carpooling at the Lebanon Home Depot parking lot. We will leave Home Depot at 9:00 AM CDT. Links to Home Depot and Beaty's are below.

This is a dog- and kid-friendly trip, so feel free to bring your well-behaved pups and young relatives.

This is a beginner hike, but please have an idea of the route. It is the twin arches loop with just an offshoot to Slave Falls.

I have posted the links from AllTrails to show the loop and where Slave Falls is.

Beginner Trip: Twin Arches Loop, November 14-15, 2026

Twin Arches

Roan Mountain has some of the most breathtaking views anywhere on the Appalachian Trail. The flowers in the Spring are amazing, but let's explore it in cooler weather this year.

**Thursday, November 26**: I will be traveling to Roan Mountain to stay (camp) somewhere in the area Thursday night. Details TBD.

**Friday, November 27**: We will catch a shuttle at Mountain Harbour Bed & Breakfast to take us to Hughes Gap Road, where we will start our hike. We will hike approxiately 12 miles to Yellow Mountain Gap and camp near where the red barn shelter used to be.

**Saturday, November 28**: We will hike approximately 9 miles to Mountain Harbour and stay the night there.

**Sunday, November 29:** We will eat the amazing breakfast at Mountain Harbour (optional, but highly recommended), then travel back home.

The total route will be about 21 miles with around 5000' of total elevation gain and 6300' elevation loss.

All trip costs will be paid on site directly to Mountain Harbour.
Shuttle: $10/person
Breakfast: $16/person
Camping at MH: $15/person
Parking at MH: $2/car/day

There is also a food truck at MH for dinner on Saturday, if interested.

**Weather**: We will go regardless of the weather, unless there or dangerous storms or closures. See the links below for weather and trail conditions. If there is ice on the trails, traction devices are recommended.

**[AT Weather](https://www.atweather.org/)**
**[Mountain Forecast](https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Roan-High-Knob/forecasts/latest)**

**Water**: There is water along the route, as well as near our intended camp site. I recommend using FarOut or some other information source to locate water sources.

**Food Storage**: There are bears in this area. A canister, ursack, or proper bear hang is required.

**Permits:** There are no permits required for the backpacking portion of this trip. Associated costs were listed previously, and will be payable directly to Mountain Harbour on site.

This trip is for experienced backpackers familiar with the distance and elevation gain involved. This will be a "go at your own pace" hike, so come prepared with a map and an understanding of the route.

When you RSVP, please send me a Meetup message with your phone number, or message me directly at 931-267-9378 when you rsvp for this trip. If I don't hear from you within 24 hours of when you sign up, your spot will go to the next person on the waitlist.

If you have any questions about this hike, please let me know. My phone number is listed above. Please RSVP with integrity....canceling at the last minute keeps someone else from attending.

Note: Please contact me about options for staying somewhere nearby Thursday night if you are interested.
