Introduction to Data Science Workshop - PyDay Mallorca 2018 (Event One)

PyDay Mallorca 2018 will be composed by two different events, on the same day:

• Event One: an introductory workshop to Data Science in Python (https://www.meetup.com/PyData-Mallorca/events/253902116/), from 9:00 to 11:30.

• Event Two: a great agenda of Python talks, opened to talks not only related to data analysis (https://www.meetup.com/PyData-Mallorca/events/253908015/), from 12:00 to 14:00.

PYDAY MALLORCA 2018 - EVENT ONE: INTRODUCTION TO DATA SCIENCE IN PYTHON WORKSHOP

DESCRIPTION

This is an introductory workshop in Spanish, for people who want to get started in Data Science. This workshop will be given by organizers of PyData Mallorca.

We will help you discover how data science can help you get the most of your data, how to set up a data science environment and which are the basics to start analysing your data set, to build predictive models with it.

The workshop will focus on all these aspects:

• Brief description of the meaning, requirements and uses of Data Science.

• Introduction to the main tools used in the Data Science Python environment: Jupyter (http://jupyter.org), NumPy (http://www.numpy.org), pandas (https://pandas.pydata.org), Matplotlib (https://matplotlib.org) and scikit-learn (http://scikit-learn.org), with examples and exercises.

• Resolution step by step of several simple classification problems.

REQUIREMENTS

People who want to attend this workshop must satisfy these requirements:

• You should bring a laptop with Anaconda (Python 3.6 version) previously installed (https://www.continuum.io/downloads).

• Basic knowledge of programming is expected. It doesn’t matter which programming languages you know, but we expect basic programming skills to keep up with the workshop.

• Only for current members of PyData Mallorca.
