Writing Hadoop jobs in Scala using Scalding

Detalles

Hi all,

last Friday Toni Cebrián presented, during the BcnDevCon, his experience working on huge data sets using Hadoop and many tools on it's ecosystem.
He will very kindly bring the talk to a smaller, cosier venue and do a private show for us all. I was at the conference and saw the talk already and I can tell you you'll learn a lot!

Here's how Toni described the session on the Conference website:

"In this session I will present how we have used Scala and Scalding at Softonic for writing complex ad-hoc queries in Hadoop. Those queries were part of a testing infrastructure for our Machine Learning algorithms.

In this session I will address which benefits derive from using functional programming languages as part of the Data Scientist toolbox, how Scalding compares to competing alternatives like Pig or Hive and issues found when trying to use this stack in the real world.

No previous knowledge of Scala, Scalding or Hadoop is required for this talk. The talk will revolve around presenting high level topics and concepts and the rationale behind the decisions made."

See you all very soon!
