SEVAS APRIL FIELD TRIP
Merritt Island NWR: Black Point Drive
Peak migration + baby birds = one of the best times of year at
Merritt Island.
Plans for this trip include a tour of the Black Point Wildlife Drive as well as several stops to look for special species along the way. Mostly a driving tour, this is a perfect bird trip for anyone with mobility issues. We drive the Black Point Drive with some easy trail walking.
Note: If Black Point is closed due to the Artemis rocket launch, we will still visit birding areas that are outside the closed area. Bring a lunch. This trip will end in early afternoon.
Merritt Island is always a great place to see waders, shore birds, songbirds and raptors. Right now it's also an exceptional habitat for wader babies and breeding birds.
Leader is Chip Francke. At noon we usually stop at Visitor Center for
a picnic lunch. Free and open to the public.
Dress for the weather, and bring water, optics, bug spray, sun screen,
snacks, and a bag lunch.
*** Meet for car-pooling at 715AM at the Dunkin' parking lot,
1812 S Ridgeway Ave, Edgewater. ***
NOTE: there is a fee if you do not have a NWR permit- see more here:
