EASTER DOG WALK on lower Salt Lick Trail looking for bluebells
Detalles
Salt Lick - with a twist. We'll start up what is usually the last part of the hike. Out on the level Johnson Trail that runs below the bluff. It's supposed to be good for bluebells. Then up the creek (cover picture) and back on the Newman Trail, and return on the same level Johnson Trail that we started on.
About 5 miles, level to rolling. Johnson Trail is totally level and gravel with some puddles after a rain. Newman Trail rolls up and down along the creekbed. Dirt trails.
FRONTLINE YOUR DOG! TICKS ARE OUT!
The creek doesn't have any steep hills, but it's a little tricky in spots. There are quite a few creek crossings, and there should be a few inches of water in all of them this time. Wear waterproof boots.
HILL: Those who want to do the hill can make that the last 1.5 miles up to the bluff and back down. Dora and I just cannot do that part anymore. It's a very tough hill, with a spectacular view. It's an easy detour for those of you who can do it. Be sure to have plenty of water for yourself and your dog.
HIKING BOOTS REQUIRED FOR SAFETY. They should be waterproof. There will be creek crossings.
POLES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Bathroom/portapotty at parking lot.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS:
Use your GPS. Best route is over the JB bridge. You'll go a very short way into Illinois, then exit onto Bluff Road (it's the first exit). Cross the RR tracks and follow that road about 15 minutes to left on Quarry Road to parking lot on left.
