Tarot and the Occult

In this special (late) halloween event we will be looking beyond spooky clichés and into a richer story of “the occult.” In this image-driven talk we start with the pop iconography of horror, then travel back to the pre-modern world where occultus meant hidden causes and images were made to have magical effects. We’ll meet astral talismans from the Picatrix, the (literally) magical works of Italian Renaissance artists like Botticelli and the Schifanoia Palace, and the long afterlives of these ideas in Tarot and visionary art. Then we will talk about Tarot, and perhaps have a few Tarot readings in the session.
Bring wine/beer/drinks/food/snacks/whatever if you want to.
